This workshop will provide a comparative of the interpretive function in therapy with children and adults. Both a child and adult clinical case will be presented where moments of interpretation lead to change. We will look at how therapeutic action results for both adult and child over long term interpretive work.

Objectives:

  1. Define the concept of interpretation.
  2. Outline the various functions of interpretation.
  3. Summarize the similarities and differences in how adults and children make use of interpretations.

Course Level:  Intermediate

In addition to guest lecturing at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute, Gabriel Ruiz is on the Faculty of both the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and  the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
