The Schiele Clinic of the St Louis Psychoanalytic Institute offers a 12-month fellowship program with a $10,000 stipend for post-graduates who have completed clinical programs for masters and doctoral degrees in social work, psychology or counseling and are licensed or working toward licensure. The school-based clinical post-graduate fellowship is an intensive learning experience in the theory and practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy in a school setting. Applicants must have previous work experience with children and/or adolescents and be available to be present at school site within typical school hours at least twice per week. Fellows attend weekly case conferences, receive individual and group supervision, and have access to continuing education opportunities.

Clinic Internship/Practicum
Programs in Out-Patient Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

The Schiele Clinic of the St Louis Psychoanalytic Institute offers a 12-month practicum program for graduate or post-graduate level students who are enrolled in or have completed clinical programs for masters and doctoral degrees in social work, psychology or counseling. The practicum is an intensive learning experience in the theory and practice of individual and couples psychodynamic psychotherapy with adolescents and adults. The length and frequency of treatment are determined by the clinical needs of the patient. Patient fees are set on a sliding scale based on the patient’s economic and social circumstances. Patients treated in the clinic present with a wide range of diagnoses. The practicum is a 12-months commitment with the option to apply for a second advanced year. Clinical trainees attend weekly case conferences, receive individual and group supervision, and have access to continuing education opportunities.

Evaluation Practicum

This one or two semesters-long practicum includes appropriate opportunities for either students seeking foundation or concentration practicum experience.
Foundation Project: To complete periodic assessments through telephone interviews with patients seen in the Schiele Clinic. These assessments include standard measures designed to monitor and assess patients’ progress in therapy and to evaluate the effectiveness of their treatment. The practicum student will also be responsible for accurately recording the data collected from the assessments.
Concentration Project: All above experiences described in Foundation Project plus tracking and analyzing the data collected from the assessments.

Non-profit Management Practicum Program

This 9 month practicum with flexible beginning and end dates is open to students seeking concentration practicum experience in community mental health non-profit settings. Foundation-level students will be considered on a case by case basis.
Project: To develop, implement, find funding for and evaluate communication strategies to extend our reach into the mental health world and gain greater awareness in the community at large. The successful candidate will become part of a small hands-on, integrated administration team, gaining experience in all parts of the management operation.
Research Fellowship

The purpose of the fellowship program is to encourage clinicians and academics to pursue psychoanalytic research in conjunction with their professional pursuits. Early career psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and academics are eligible to apply for the fellowship. Psychoanalytic candidates are not eligible to apply for this fellowship. Applicants should demonstrate a serious ongoing interest in psychoanalysis and its relationship to their primary field. They should be prepared to contribute to their field of expertise through psychoanalytic research.
