The Assessment and Treatment of Acute and Chronic Suicidality

This class, when completed in its entirety, is offered for 2.0 Credit Hours.  Certificates awarded upon completion of on-line post-class survey.

This course will address the assessment of both acute and chronic suicidality. We will examine some instruments for the evaluation and clinical response to acute suicidal risk; we will also consider the clinical presentation of chronic suicidality, some of the underlying causes, and some treatment options for these very distressed patients.

Although this class is designed to meet the Missouri LCSW licensure renewal suicide prevention training requirement, it is suitable for ALL mental health professionals.



  1. Articulate several features useful to the assessment of acute risk of suicide.
  2. Define several features of chronic suicidality.
  3. Define several clinical responses to both acute and chronic suicidality.
