Bringing the Institute to you.
The Saint Louis Psychoanalytic Institute offers distance learning options for select courses, lectures, and seminars, allowing qualified participants to join live classes via Zoom video conferencing. Distance learners are fully integrated into the classroom experience — engaging with faculty and fellow students in real time, not watching a recording.
Programs Available via Distance Learning
- Analytic Training Programs: Select the distance learning option when completing your program application for Adult or Child & Adolescent Psychoanalysis training.
- Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (APP) Program: Select the distance learning option when completing your APP program application.
- Community Education Lectures & Seminars: When registering for individual events, select “Yes” in the distance learning box for classes that offer this option.
Eligibility
Distance learning is designed for participants who are unable to attend classes in person due to geographic distance. To be eligible, participants must live or work at least 90 miles from the Institute (7700 Clayton Rd, Suite 200, St. Louis, MO 63117).
Distance learning spaces for each class are limited. Acceptance is made on a first-come, first-served basis.
What to Expect
Before Your First Class
You will complete a brief orientation and technology check via Zoom to ensure your setup is working properly before the course begins.
During Class
You will join the live session via Zoom and participate alongside in-person students. Faculty and classmates can see and hear you, and active engagement in discussion is expected.
If Technical Issues Arise
If your video connection is interrupted during class, you may switch to audio-only (telephone) mode to continue participating. We encourage all distance learners to have a backup plan — such as a mobile device with the Zoom app installed — in case of connectivity issues.
Technology Requirements
All distance learning sessions are conducted via Zoom. To ensure the best experience:
- Download the latest version of Zoom at zoom.us/download
- Use a reliable, high-speed internet connection. A wired (Ethernet) connection is recommended for stability.
- Use a headset with a microphone. This ensures clear audio for all participants.
- Ensure your webcam is working. Video participation is expected.

A Note for Social Workers
Continuing education credit requirements vary by state. If you are a social worker participating via distance learning from outside of Missouri, please verify with your state licensing board that distance learning credits from an out-of-state provider are accepted.
