The presentation will address the three pandemics: COVID-19; the related anxiety/panic about the disruption to everyday life, especially for children and families; and finally, how systemic racism and unregulated racist impulses have had a traumatic impact on families and communities in terms of police violence and access to proper healthcare, education, and opportunities. A psychoanalytic perspective will be offered regarding managing the long term traumatic impact of the loss of normal life and helplessness regarding the unpredictable nature of the pandemic and its effects. Clinical vignettes will be presented to highlight this perspective, with implications for strategies to move children, families, and communities forward. The presentation format will allow time for participant discussion.
